Above is an example of how the pattern can be done with up to 8 children. The main differences between this and the original are:
1)The extra name boxes take the place of the flowers and animals on the ground. I just put one small flower to the side of each set of name boxes.
2)The children are set closer to the parents and the girls are 2 spaces closer to each other than in the original pattern, so their hands form a square where they meet.
3) One of the cows and two of the sheep have been removed.
Some suggestions on threads for variations on hair colors:
Blonde Hair- Toffee: Gentle Arts #7078
Brown Hair- Picnic Basket: Gentle Arts #7060
Black Hair-Espresso Bean: Gentle Arts #7084
Red Hair- Nutmeg: Gentle Arts #0560
Gray Hair- Aged Pewter: Gentle Arts #7032
White Hair- Shaker White: Gentle Arts #7025
I've tried to make the pictures large enough to help you see the spacing, but if you have any questions about it, please email or call me and I'll be happy to try to help.
Here is my last example which shows how to arrange the names if you want to put 3 children on one side.
I hope you have found these pictures helpful, but if you need any help or have any suggestions, please let me know.
Here is another example of how the pattern can be done with 4 children. This one has the same changes as the one above as far as the name spacing, but this one also has a different arrangement of children. The pattern includes a small design of the boy and girl facing in the opposite directions from the original so that you can stitch the children on whichever side of the tree you want.
Here is an example of how the pattern can be done with 4 children. The main differences between this and the original are:
1)The extra name boxes on the boys' side takes the place of the flowers that were underneath.
2)The dog has been removed.
3) This version also shows a darker complexion family. I suggest using Gentle Arts Maple Syrup thread for the skin. This color thread is not used elsewhere in the pattern though, so it's not one of the colors listed on the main floss list for the pattern
